Here my visitors
may roam rooms of work and ideas in our garage
-- this being where we dump all our half-baked
projects, ramblings and other possibly aimless pursuits.

In
addition to teaching traditional physics and
astronomy, Doug Fowler incorporates an interest in
environmental issues into the subject matter of
courses for non-majors. Questions about resource use
and power consumption provide jumping off points for
learning basic physics.
He also, at times, teaches in the Geology Department
at YSU. This ideal combination allows him to explore
with his students in both departments questions
ranging from the composition of the planets and the
origin of the Solar System to the development of
mineral resources and the disposal of solid waste.
Doug has production experience from his past work
with the Ward Beecher Planetarium. He has been
involved with the production of an ongoing series of
programs for WYSU-FM 88.5 as part of the station’s
“Focus” series. On-air discussions with guests
centered on environmental issues.
As a sideline, he routinely produces on-the-road
audio-visual presentations on resource use and other
related environmental issues. Schools, libraries,
and other groups can make private arrangements by
contacting him through the Department of Physics and
Astronomy or sending an
email.
Doug's on-the-road presentations
can also include skywatching, learning constellations,
and observing with telescopes. As the San Francisco
Sidewalk Astronomers state in their motto: "Have
Telescope, Will Travel." |
